Raphael is a dual titled Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapist, awarded by the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA). He has completed a post-graduate Masters of Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy Degree (2014) from Griffith University. He has also completed his qualifications from the Masters of Physiotherapy program at Griffith University (2006), following the completion of an undergraduate Bachelors of Exercise Science degree (2003).
Raphael has extensive experience working with a wide variety of clients in orthopaedic, rehabilitation and musculoskeletal physiotherapy settings, working for the past 10 years in both the public and private sector. He has developed a particular interest in the management of the neck (cervical spine), back (thoracolumbar spine), knee and ankle pain. Raphael applies management principles that involve specific and thorough clinical assessment; advanced-level clinical reasoning and evidence-based treatment including manual therapy, patient education and appropriate exercise prescription/self-management for optimal rehabilitation.
Raphael has considerable experience working with both recreational and elite athletes from a variety of sports, particularly touch football, basketball, and water sports. He has excellent knowledge of both injury and performance rehabilitation for all musculoskeletal injuries and has worked closely with athletes to allow them to return to their optimal level of function. He is a current member of the Queensland Touch Football sports medicine team.
Raphael grew up and spent most of his life on the Gold Coast, but has spent the last four years away in Townsville and the Sunshine Coast. He was a valued member for three years of a well-established sports and rehabilitation oriented clinic during his time at Townsville. Raphael relocated briefly to the Sunshine Coast and now looks forward to re-establishing a local reputation for providing effective and comprehensive physiotherapy care after returning back to his home town in late 2016.
Raphael is passionate about the coastal and outdoor life and promotes that any form of regular physical activity is an integral component for promoting optimal health.
He has a strong belief in injury prevention and encourages that all individuals seek assistance before any minor ailments become ongoing, and potentially chronic and costly problems. Raphael is passionate about all sports in general and has himself competed at elite level touch football, while in his down-time enjoys meeting new people, travel, music, photography, surfing and personal fitness.
