Born and raised in Hong Kong, a very busy, fast paced city, Sylvia moved to Australia in 2010 and made the life changing decision to learn how to improve not only her own hip and low back problems she experienced secondary to prolonged sitting postures at work on an extensive history of dancing, but to have a positive impact on other people in pain through massage therapy.
Sylvia completed a Cert IV and Diploma of Remedial therapy in 2013 and worked alongside other therapists and health professionals, attending various workshops to further her knowledge. She also worked as part of the massage team at various sporting events including work with the Gold Coast Titans.
The knowledge and skills she obtained benefited her clients and herself tremendously, but she realised it was not a long-term fix, hence an Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy, from which she graduated in 2015. Learning the importance in the way and patterns that we move really opened her eyes and made her even more passionate about her job, helping get her clients back to a pain free, active life as soon as possible.
As a myotherapist, Sylvia works directly with the client. She is especially interested in the management of soft-tissue pain and dysfunction associated with chronic musculoskeletal conditions, in particular around the hip and back. Throughout her treatment she draws on a variety of techniques to address pain and dysfunction. She has extensive training and experience in the use of myofascial dry needling, neuromuscular (trigger point) therapy, myofascial release, positional release techniques and joint mobilisation. In addition to this she also uses massage, cupping, thermo/cryo therapy, rigid and kinesio taping and transcutaneous nerve stimulations (TENS) along with various forms of stretching and corrective exercises in her treatments.
Outside of work she enjoys dancing, yoga, cooking, reading and is busy with church activities and volunteer work.
