Gold Coast Triathletes

The Gold Coast has a huge number of triathletes, a statistic that is continuing to grow which is great to see. Triathlon can be a fun but gruelling sport, and keeping your physical and mental wellbeing is of paramount importance to help avoid injury and time away from training and competing. This should be a goal for all Gold Coast Triathlete teams and individuals alike.

Gold Coast Triathlete Injury Management

Triathlon injuries vary in location and severity, but in competitive triathletes are mainly from overuse (Burns et al, 2003). Of the 3 disciplines associated with triathlon (Swim, Bike, Run), running is the biggest cause of injury in this athletic population. There may be a number of reasons associated with this including biomechanics, training types and loads, footwear etc..

Training load plays a big part in injury prevention and management of triathletes. A useful strategy to monitor load is to keep a training diary (be specific with entries), allowing you to look back and see what you have been doing, and how you have been feeling. This can help guide the sessions to come, and can help with training modification when needed. It is also useful to have a well-respected coach or professional to help develop and guide your programming.

Building a Strong Team

A consult with an experienced health clinician about any training concerns or doubts is encouraged, and even with injury there are many ways training can be modified so that you maintain a good training load through injury rehabilitation. This also provides the opportunity to identify any weaknesses, imbalances, or technical flaws that may be hindering performance and leading to the niggles and injuries felt. Gold Coast Triathlete management is a delicate balance, and something that our clinicians have experience in and want to help you with.
